FRESHMAN FOCUS: Aaron Graves, ’20, majoring in political science at Gonzaga University

College freshman Aaron Graves, ’20, is pursuing a political science major at Gonzaga University in Washington State.

Q: How have you been doing at Gonzaga University?

A: Well, it’s been definitely a step up from high school to here, but I have been enjoying it so far.

Q: Are you doing remote or in-person learning?

A: My classes have been split up. About half of it is in person, and the other half is online.

Q: What are some of the difficulties you have had with online learning?

A: Well, to be honest, the motivation behind those classes is pretty weak. If you can do a class from your bed, it’s a lot harder to stay focused.

Q: Speaking of learning, what classes are you taking?

A: Right now I am taking Communications 100, International Studies 201, Physics 104, Political Science 101 and Political Science 103.

Q: What about political science has interested you?

A: It was a field that I never really experienced before, and it intrigued me. I really enjoyed debates during History classes in high school, and I think those helped messy me in the direction of Political Science the most.

Q: You used to do basketball, baseball, and soccer. Do you continue in these sports?

A: No, I quit them to focus on my studies.

Q: What is your largest class, and what is your smallest?

A: My largest class is Physics 104 with 40 people, and my smallest class is International Studies 201 with 20 people.

Q: Do you have any advice for the upcoming class of 2021?

A: My advice for college freshmen would be to get your GE (General Education) done as soon as possible.
