The Cavaliers varsity volleyball team swept the Sacramento Adventist Capitals 3-0 on Sept. 21. 

After a challenging weekend tournament, the Cavs came back to their league with a very positive mindset, said coach Jason Kreps.

Sophomore setter Kaitlyn Dias had a commanding presence in all three sets, making 19 assists.

Senior outside hitter Vanessa  Escobar and sophomore libero Zoe Genetos afforded useful support in the huddle, Dias said.

Senior middle Zola Grey had an effective presence in the front line, getting consistent blocks and spikes, according to Dias. 

Dias said team bonding has made winning easier.

“Our chemistry has gotten better, and we’re becoming better friends,” Dias said. “We do a lot of outside activities together, and I’ve made a lot of new friends on the team this year,” Dias said.

Kreps said sophomore outside hitter Mia Crowder had a stand-out performance, sustaining the Cavs’ lead throughout the sets with consistent serves and three aces.

Crowder praised great defensive play and teamwork.

“I felt like our team worked super well together and I was really surprised with our ability,” Crowder said.

Crowder also pointed out strong kills and spikes that result in points from sophomore right-side hitter Annalucia King and Escobar. Both King and Escobar made 4 kills over the course of the sets.

After this clean win and a strong performance at the invitational on Sept. 18, Kreps is excited to see how far the team can go.

“With this team coming in so young and new, I thought we were just going to hold our own, but I really feel like we can make the playoffs and make a good run,” Kreps said.
