Country Day has reinstated a mandatory indoor masking requirement for all students and staff in the high school after experiencing an increase in COVID-19 cases.

The school reinstated the indoor mask mandate to “limit the number of cases on campus,” said Lee Thomsen, head of school.

Head of High School Brooke Wells hopes to keep the student body healthy for graduation on June 9.

“We’re going to mask indoors — in classrooms and libraries — with the idea that we want to preserve prom, senior dinner and graduation. It’s the same reason we’re putting the award ceremony in a newsletter format,” Wells said.

“It’s important that everyone gets a chance to have these critical high school experiences.”

Current measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 remain in place.

“We are keeping testing in place, symptom screening in the morning, and asking people to stay home if they have any symptoms. We also continue to encourage good hand-washing and being aware of social distancing,” Thomsen said.

The mandate is expected to remain in place for the remainder of the school year, though it is unclear if it will extend to the fall.
