‘Quarterback’ leads varsity volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep

Country Day varsity volleyball swept Leroy Greene Academy 3-0 on Aug. 26.

Coach Jason Kreps approached the game with a new player rotation to make passing the ball easier.

“We stacked our front and back row, which reduced the congestion on the floor,” Kreps said.

The new formation worked out well, as this was one of the best passing games the team’s played, Kreps said.

Kreps also praised the dynamic duo of sophomore libero Zoe Genetos and sophomore setter Kaitlyn Dias.

Genetos received the first ball on defense and passed it to Dias, who set up the team’s offensive attack.

However, their roles switched several times during the game based on the other team’s ball placement, but they were able to think fast and adapt quickly.

“Zoe and I have great chemistry,” Dias said. “We have a playful relationship on the court while pushing each other to be our best.”

Kreps, who has coached Genetos for three years, said this was the best game he has ever seen her play.

“She’s talking great on the floor and is definitely growing into that leadership role,” Kreps said.

Dias, who has six years of volleyball experience, also has great communication and leadership skills, Kreps said.

“She’s the quarterback of our team,” he said.

The Cavs’ next game is Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. against Cristo Rey at St. Francis High School.
