In place of class trips, Country Day will be hosting a week of games and events from Tuesday, Oct. 5 to Thursday, Oct. 7.

Monday will be a regular school day. On Tuesday, Student Council will be organizing a game and picnic day that begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2:00, early dismissal. Wednesday will be movie night and Thursday will be a chalk mural and casino night. Both start at 6 p.m. Friday is an off-day.

For AP students, some classes will still meet throughout the week. Students are expected to arrive at school according to their schedules. 

On Tuesday, students can expect a competitive school-wide dodgeball game inside the gym and the word game, Scrabble, as the listed activities on Tuesday. For both games, instead of red team v. black team, the games will be grade against grade.  

“We want to switch it up this time,” senior student body president Dylan Margolis said. “We’re at the point of the year where students know each other and would have a fun time playing on a team with all their friends and grade.” 

After the games, the students will take a 10-minute walk to Oakmeadow Park for a picnic. The school will be providing all high school students with free box lunches from Beach Hut Deli. 

On Wednesday evening, movie night will begin at 6 p.m. with a performance by hypnotist Darin Frazier. The movie, “Beetlejuice,” a Halloween favorite,  will begin at 7:30 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m. 

“Normally, Country Day just does a movie night but we wanted to put a little spin on it and do something a little bit different,” Sandee Chand said,  a volunteer for the Parents’ Association. Ten to twelve volunteers will be needed for the live performance. It will be both engaging and fun, Chand said.

Country Day will also be holding a costume contest on Wednesday during movie night. Students will receive cash prizes for the best costumes.

Free popcorn, drinks and cotton candy will be provided to students. Head of High School Brooke Wells will also be grilling hot dogs. 

On Thursday, there will be a chalk mural celebration and casino game day starting at 6 p.m.

For the past 30 years, Country Day high-school art students have painted annual chalk murals for display on campus, Wells said. There will be a scavenger hunt from this year’s murals. 

“We’re also going to have a casino night where students can go and game with blackjack, roulette and craps,” Chand said. 

There will also be a DJ and taco and shaved ice food trucks at the event.

The casino games will be the final activity of the week before students head off to Fall break from Friday, Oct. 8 to Monday, Oct. 11. 

“It’s going to be a fun time and I hope people are smiling and laughing. That’s the goal!” Margolis said.
